It’s definitely a great time to be a rain cloud. First we took the Macworld 2013 iOS Game of the Year gong, and now there’s even more important news for Kumo Lumo!

Yes, your favourite rain-‘em-up is getting a brand new update and this time we’ve got some big new features to bring to you, the most important of which is a whole new way to enjoy Kumo Lumo.

Time Attack is a new mode that sits alongside the original game (now renamed Story Mode). The gameplay is the same rain ‘em up action that you all know and love, but instead of a fixed objective, Time Attack just asks you to score as many points as possible while playing against the clock.

There are 3 Time Attack levels, 1 Minute, 3 Minutes and 5 Minutes. Each has been specially designed to provide an exciting ride around the skies, raining on as many things as you can find. Unlike the Story Mode, Time Attack keeps the skies filled with clouds, so it’s easy to keep Lumo topped up with water – unless you’re into particularly heavy rain.

The trick is to pick the right things to rain on and blast with Lightning. Everything in the world has got different score values, but the high values stuff is not always nearby  – so do you keep raining or just go hunting for high values targets and valuable Multi-Kills? Time Attack also gives you ample opportunity to make use of all those Rain and Lightning upgrades you’ve purchased.

Play for Glory – or Play for Fun

Time Attack is a great way to get competitive and try to compete against your Game Center friends for the highest score. You can use challenge your friends to try to beat your new high score and it’s easy to keep track on who is currently beating you in the Leaderboards.

That’s great if you like a challenge, but we know a lot of you just love a bit of Lumo time without the pressure to win and who don’t need to show off to your friends. Well, Time Attack just gives you that lovely, relaxing time with your favourite Rain Cloud. Fly around, have fun, look after Lumo! He’ll love it and we won’t mind if you don’t threaten the top of the Leaderboards.

You might even see some things you’ve not found in the main game so there’s plenty of reasons for everyone to enjoy this new game mode.

More Improvements

We’ve also been working hard backstage to continue improving the Kumo Lumo experience for everyone. We’ve made quite a few levels in Story Mode slightly easier, so if you had got stuck – go back and give it another shot, you may be pleasantly surprised. You should notice there’s a much more reliable flow of gold coins into your games and that ground based characters are a bit more unpredictable and dynamic now.

Even more improvements

Those of you with unreliable Wi-Fi or 3D connections may have noticed that the Gold Store was not always available even after you had reconnected to the internet. Well, we can’t help with your internet connection but Kumo Lumo will re-connect automatically now so if you’re online, the gold shop will always be there!

HOW DO I GET THIS AMAZING UPDATE???

Well that’s the best bit – the whole update is FREE! All of these features and improvements are completely free to you. Just download the update from the App Store NOW and Kumo Lumo will be back in your pocket, better than ever!

Lumo’s even got a brand new icon for you to look out for! (Aaaah – so that’s why Lumo turned purple a few days ago…)

Awwww Yeeeeaahh!

We always knew that Kumo Lumo was the best game of the year, but now the kind folks at Macworld have gone and agreed with us!

 

At a fabulous event in London on the 20th of June, Kumo Lumo took the prize for iOS Game of the Year and designer Jonathan Evans was there in person (and in a posh tux) to collect the award.

 Naturally everybody here at Blitz Games Studios are over the moon with this achievement. And proudest of all are the members of Team Lumo who have seen their creation go from a crazy little idea, to Editors Choice on the App Store and now to collect a Game of the Year award.

When asked for a quote on what the award means to them, nobody from Team Lumo was able to speak because they were so busy eating cake and grinning wildly. (That was kind of messy, but give them a break – Award Winners can do this stuff.)

Philip Oliver, CEO of Blitz Games gave this tribute to the team, “We’re absolutely delighted and honoured that Kumo Lumo was named Macworld iOS Game of the Year; it’s a testament to the talented and passionate staff we have here and our continued mission of creating critically and commercially successful games.”

Where have we been? – Part 1 – The Launch Party

Hello!

It’s been quite a while since our last blog post, which actually means we’ve got loads of news to tell you.

The Kumo Lumo Launch event

 

On October 26th, a week after Kumo Lumo went live on the App Store, we held our incredible launch celebration in the Graffik Gallery in London.

Most game launches are pretty staid affairs, in posh pubs or restaurant venues, with a few game journalists and your best (coolest) mates hanging around, nibbling on canapés. But, as with all things Kumo Lumo, we wanted to do something bigger, better and most of all, far more original.

Since the game was so influenced by the whole street art movement, we thought that a one-off exhibition of street art was an amazing way to celebrate the launch of the game and actually get involved with the art movement itself.

So after a frantic few weeks of contacting artists and creating some original artwork ourselves, we found ourselves on Portobello Road with an astounding collection of prints and paintings on show in honour of the little cloud himself.

A roaring success, the gallery was filled with people drawn by the mix of street art, sticker art and Lumo himself.

The Graffik Gallery features an outdoor area which we were allowed to decorate in our own chaotic style.

That same outdoor area also played host to well known street artist, International Nobody who performed a live paint.

 

Other artists including Dead Cert, Tom Lewis, Static and Andrew McAttee also showed their work.

Team Lumo were also proud to exhibit their own artwork. Every piece created especially for the event

The Pirate Foxes took pride of place in the show. (As ever…)

It was an incredible night that I don’t think any member of Team Lumo will ever forget.

If you were there, or had any part to play in the event, Team Lumo would like to extend our most heartfelt thanks. You’ve made a small fluffy cloud, very, very proud indeed.

Gallery event today!

Wow! What an exciting few days it’s been since launch! We’re absolutely bowled over by the overwhelmingly positive reception Kumo Lumo has received from the public and critics alike.

We’ll be bringing you a round-up very soon of all the wonderful reviews, articles and comments that have been written about Kumo Lumo, but until then we wanted to remind you all of a very special event that is happening TODAY!

Blitz Games Studios and Team Lumo have partnered with the Graffik Gallery in Notting Hill, London to present Game Art vs. Street Art, a gallery event where we’re showing off Kumo Lumo alongside amazing artwork from some of the biggest and best street artists in the UK, as well as exclusive artwork created especially for the event by Team Lumo themselves!

The gallery event is open all day, with the evening event starting at 5pm. You’ll find all the important details in the digital flyer below. Feel free to share this post and the flier with everyone you know – everyone is welcome, come one, come all. We hope to see you there!

A brave new world

It was a busy ol’ night for our Lumo – little by little, country by country, everyone’s favourite cloud slowly blanketed each and every App Store on the planet.

This morning, the world woke up to Kumo Lumo.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s a world that looks exactly the same as it did yesterday. You’d be forgiven for thinking that nothing has changed. But you’d be wrong.

Things are possible today that you could only dream of yesterday. Astonishing, wondrous things, bacon-making, lightning-zapping, raindrop-spreading AMAZING things.

It’s the day we’ve all be waiting for. Kumo Lumo has started appearing in App Stores across the world, our US friends will have it by tomorrow morning and will be hitting Europe in a few short hours. Don’t worry – it’ll be in everyone’s hands very soon!

Fan Art

Kumo Lumo is still a few days away from being released but already we’ve got some fantastic pieces of fan art from the friends we have picked up along the way.  That people have taken time to draw and send us their Lumo pictures is one of the most amazing things we’ve seen since we started working on the fluffy little guy.  Honestly, we are so flattered and grateful to everyone who has taken the time and we would LOVE to see more. This is just the first batch we have received but please keep sending us your Kumo Lumo art so we can publish it on the blog.*

There’s even been time for us to try our hand at Lumo fanart ourselves. @NickJohnA went to the extreme of making this fanart in a completely different game! See if you can guess which one… We say, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, NICK!

LAUNCH DATE! LAUNCH DATE! LAUNCH DATE!

Are you ready for this? We have the best news you’ve heard all day. *Deep breath*

Kumo Lumo will be released on the 11th October!

That’s just 3 days away… <GULP>

Yep, you read that right. YOU (yes, even you) can download Kumo Lumo from the App Store on Thursday 11th October. The game will be live on the App Store at 00:01 on Thursday morning, so if you stay up really late on Wednesday you should be able to get it before you go to bed. As promised the game will be FREE so there is really no excuse not to download and start raining on all those trees, whales, Pirate Foxes, creepy teacups and startled sheep!

So mark the date in your diaries, book the day off work, stock up on bacon and barricade the door to stop the outside world from disturbing you.

Thursday 11th October 2012 will forever be known and “Kumo Lumo Day.” (Or “Black Friday” to confused employers across the country, whose staff all fail to show up for work that day.)

For once, we really, REALLY, hope it rains!
